Moreover, the WPO's concertmaster, the great Prof. Dr. Gerhart Hetzel (who tragically died from a mountaineering fall six months later), refuses to fall for Carlos’ old trick of shaking the concertmaster’s hand to get him and the rest of the orchestra to rise. Both moves were intended to insure that Carlos got all the applause during that curtain call, including a lot from the orchestra itself.
